What little I have is Yours

Last night at Bible study we looked at the account of Jesus feeding the 5000. Jesus asked Philip where they could buy food to feed the people. Philip said it would take a half year's wage to give each person a bite.

"Andrew, Simon Peter's bother spoke up, "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" (John 6:8-9).

Philip said the crowd is too big and we don't have enough. Andrew said this is what we have, tiny as it is.

It's easy to think we don't matter. I am not out doing great things for the kingdom on a daily basis. I'm taking care of a family, I'm gong to work and trying to balance friendships and chores and grace and discipline. And most of what I do seems subpar.

I'm so glad this miracle is recorded, because it shows that God can take the smallest of offerings, the tiniest talent, the one or two words I use to do great things in His kingdom.

It isn't about how much. Jesus praised the widow who gave the two small coins. It's about using what He has given us. It's about recognizing that we are in a unique position and have access to lives others don't. It's about staying in the Word so that when we are called upon we are ready.

Use the little we have, Lord. Spur us on to love and good deeds and bless our efforts in big ways!
